Glen Peters 0 Report post Posted April 12, 2013 I bought a propane burner and wondered whether it would be appropriate for a small raku kiln (modified 45Gal drum) This burner is rated at 500,000 BTU/Hr. It was on sale for for $60.00 Cnd regular $80.00 And if 500,000 isn't enough I could buy two??? (check link) My link
neilestrick 1,772 Report post Posted April 12, 2013 More than large enough. Have fun!
TJR 359 Report post Posted April 12, 2013 Glen; You probably want to get a regulator as well from your propane supplier. Looks like a gauge about 2 inches in diameter. Screws into your tank, then the hose comes from that. Might be reverse threaded so go easy with the wrench. I agree with Neil. Have fun. TJR.
Marcia Selsor 1,505 Report post Posted April 12, 2013 It's a go! Have fun. I set my regulators at 3.5 lbs. I fire with 2 burners but I have a large raku kiln. It is in my gallery. I am having perfect weather for Raku at the moment. Marcia
Glen Peters 0 Report post Posted April 12, 2013 Thank you all That burner is two inches. And I assume your saying that "one" burner should more than enough? Glen
neilestrick 1,772 Report post Posted April 12, 2013 Yes, that one is more than enough.
Marcia Selsor 1,505 Report post Posted April 12, 2013 500,000 BTUs is plenty. What size is your kiln and what materials? That is the only thing that would make a difference. If you have a huge raku kiln made out of straw (joking) or poor insulation material Marcia

Make sure the regulater is a high pressure regulator( usually 1 to 10 lbs pressure) not the type for a BBQ or fireplace. Ok Thanks!

Glen Peters 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2013 Hi all Regarding my burner question, I have been looking at regulators and wondered if I needed a gauge with it? This reg doesn't have a gauge but claims to be ajustable from 0 to 30, will it do the trick? My link Thanks Glen
Brian Reed 23 Report post Posted April 19, 2013 I would not get one without a gauge. I would look for one more like this example, but in lower pressure. Although this does state 0-70 psi I would be leary of one that had such a large range so fine .5 and .25 PSI adjustments may be hard. My link
