Shimpo Slab Roller

What?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone owned or used a Shimpo Slab Roller? I like the double roller design and size. I don't know how well it works or the quality of slab it produces. The price new is $800 which makes me skeptical. I have searched the forums and net and not a whole lot of info on these. My other option is a Brent SR20 not crazy about the shims and cables. Both are used in my area for around $400. I know a would like a Bailey or North Star but rarely come up used in my area. Any feed back on Shimpo would be great. Thanks.

The Shimpo slab roller appears to be the same one as the Axner, Ceramic Supply, and Euclids roller. I used to sell them, and they are a good machine. A couple of my friends have them and they have held up well. I would take any two-roller type over the Brent cable system, because you have greater and easier thickness adjustment, and no limit to slab length.

I have to agree with a two roller system as well. I read the review the other day and was concerned about the roller lifting. I can fab a nylon washer to fill the space at least from what I saw in the Shimpo manual . My mind is made up; Shimpo it is. If a Bailey comes along I will snatch it up and sell the Shimpo. I think $400 is reasonable to get into the hand building game or one hell of an expensive shelf. Thanks for your two cents.
