cbarnes
My 7 year old granddaughter is begging me to teach her how to make pottery on the wheel. Any advice for teaching children?
MatthewV
Center it for her the first few times. Use about 1 lb of clay.
oldlady
be sure to tell her she is learning a skill, not trying to produce a product. try three balls of clay and change them as soon as they go really wonky. then have a simple hand building item to finish the very short lesson so there is something tangible for her to feel successful. firenflux
What is the best clay for teaching with. Cone 6. I recently had a lesson with a 10 year old cousin and forgot my clay has a little grog in it. Fine for me because I center fast, but it hurt her hand. Oops! vinks
Let her feel the clay before any instructions or making her learn basics. Kids are very curious to know about wheel..even expose her how wheel functions, clockwise, anticlockwise and how fast/slow the speed…..then goes the basics…further let her enjoy step by step.
