Randy D
I am new to this and i just acquired a trinkit studio kiln that works great but is dirty. A few places it flaked of in shallow chips f as can be seen in the picture. Any help on cleaning would be appreciated.
neilestrick
Is this photo the lid?
Randy D
No this is inside the kiln where you lay the items to get fired. If you look close you can see the heating element lines
neilestrick
Ok, I found some pics of this kiln. It's a unique design, so I wasn't sure what I was looking at. What is that surface made of- is it hard or is it fiber? Also, what is all over it- enamel?
Randy D
Hard almost like a stoneware material. I would guess enamel.
neilestrick
Grinding is really the only way to get it off, however it looks like some of these kilns were made a really long time ago, and without knowing what's in the platform I wouldn't go grinding on it. Could be asbestos, especially with the elements imbedded in it, and if the enamel is very old it may have lead in it.
Randy D
I tried to take my small detail vibrating sander to it and it did not do much. I thought the same as you and wore my respirator when I did it. Have any idea how deep the elements are imbedded in it ? Also I wonder how thick the buildup is on it. Thanks for your help
Randy D
I read the body is made of refractory porcelain and I wonder if the element plate is the same
Babs
Not sure if room but could you prop a shelf above this surface to put your stuff on?
Randy D
When I purchased it the person had a sheet metal circle cut out the same size of element so that it what they must have done. Unfortunately the person that owned was deceased so I could not ask questions. Much appreciatedĀ
