buckbuck
I just tried glass bead media for attempting to get a "mat" finish on a piece. It etched in further than I would like. Has anyone used walnut shell media?
Mark C.
Depends on the glaze? How hard it is? (what its made of-like some colbalt glazes and reds are very soft) what its fired to cone wise? This may not be what you want to do but how about putting a Matt glaze on to begin with? Walnut shells work great on painted wood and metal and are less aggressive than glass beads. Mark
buckbuck
The glaze I'm working on is a crackle. I want to make a contrast between gloss and mat.
buckbuck
It is a cone 6 and inked.
Mark C.
I would try the shells and if its to aggressive enough add a very small amount of silica sand to them (small mesh size) Mark
buckbuck
Thank you. I will give it a try. I had to pick someting and got the glass bead. Next trip will be Walnut. Any suggestions if I have a choice on size? After I try it I'll post the results.

Denice
You can find glass etching cream at craft stores all we have here is hobby lobby and Michaels. It's easier, cleaner and you can matt small areas with it. Denice
