moh
Hello! Anyone here have experience sandblasting on masked artwork to remove glaze? Which abrasive did you use successfully? I've so far tried glass and 240 grit it only mattes it doesn't remove the glaze. I'd like to avoid carbide ones to reduce studio contamination. All the best. Hulk
Hi Moh, Liam suggests "alumina oxide" here: Sandblasting - Clay and Glaze Chemistry - Ceramic Arts Daily Community (in another thread he specified aluminum oxide). Graco runs down some of the parameters here: Choosing the Right Blast Media for Abrasive Blasting (graco.com) Aluminum oxide here: Sandblasting - Electric Mid&Hi Fired Ceramics (ning.com) Silicon carbide - one of, if not the hardest media available - might not be necessary: A Guide To Sandblasting Media | Finishing Systems Hopefully you can set up well away from your inside/workspace, and downwind from windows, doors, etc. Good luck! Please do report back on your findings, progress, and results.
