cdudley
Hello I'm sorry this is not the first time I've posted here in a panic, but here I am again having potentially screwed something up and looking those who know way more than I. I tried a new clay: Standard Ceramic 295 Raku clay with kyanite, my plan was to bisque it then pit fire it. Their other raku body fires to C 04, which is what my work is at this very moment firing to... but I just checked the website and the 295 is C 06. The community studio is closed for the weekend and I'm not sure other than breaking and entering that there is anything I can do to stop this process... and these pieces were very important so I'm truly kicking myself right now. How much sleep should I lose over this?
cdudley
I should mention that the website does not specify a range, say 06 for bisque and 6 for glaze. it just says 06.
JohnnyK
None...At what cone does the clay usually mature? Probably ^10. You should be OK with your pit firing...
neilestrick
@cdudley It'll be fine. They just put cone 06 as a generic number for raku firing. Raku bodies typically don't fully mature until high fire temps, so it's not going to affect it one bit going to cone 04.
Callie Beller Diesel
I once put a Plainsman raku body though a cone ten wood fire. They tend to be very refractory.
