mgdufresne
Wondering if folks can help me try to figure out how to get a similar effect. I'm assuming this is white slip over a dark clay body, but is the black an ink or underglaze? Any ideas I greatly appreciate. I've posted a few images below. Thanks in advance! https://www.flickr.com/photos/57771979@N05/5317815170/ https://www.pinterest.com/pin/455356212325024470/ https://www.pinterest.com/pin/266908715395681841/
liambesaw
We can't really know, but I'd assume it's some kind of black stain, glaze or underglaze.
Callie Beller Diesel
Hi and welcome to the forum @mgdufresne I've added to the title of your post so the question is more obvious and you get more responses that way. I agree with Liam, it's probably a blackunderglaze decoration, although I think it's probably a home mix not a commercial one. The commercial ones tend to be pretty stable and don't bleed through or flash.
Rae Reich
The black on the clay body where there is no glaze is carbon from the reduction Raku firing. The black decorations on the first piece look like black stain over the glaze. If you aren't already Raku firing, there is much to learn, grasshopper. Look for Raku videos on YouTube. mgdufresne
Thanks All, I didn't think about raku, I was thinking wood/reduction. Darn. Thanks!
