SweetheartSister
I've been advised that earthenware will always craze eventually, because it always remains slightly porous. Is this true? I've been advised that porcelain is a better bet for product longevity. I make and sell ceramic jewellery. Have been using earthenware up until now but am considering porcelain. The only thing is I've heard it takes a lot longer to slip cast. Would love some opinions on this from the experts on this forum
liambesaw
I'm no expert but porcelain is a lot stronger and less absorbent than earthenware. For jewelry I don't know how much strength matters.
neilestrick
Time needed for casting shouldn't be much different at all. If anything, I would think that porcelain would cast faster because it has a lower water content.
Pres
Even though denser, most porcelain jewelry can be thinner than earthenware. Areas where findings may go through holes and such can be stronger also in the porcelain. In the long run color will be brighter with porcelain also. IMHO best, Pres
