ABG
I am putting together a small kiln (10" x 14" x 6") for firing stamps and small tiles (1" x 1"). It's just a rolled steel cage, lined with ceramic fiber. My intent is to fasten the fiber blanket to the cage using nichrome wire with ceramic buttons on the interior. But I just realized that the buttons that I have are glazed and my mind is spinning for options. Pretty sure that I cannot use those in bisque temps. Right? liambesaw
I use cone 10 stoneware buttons, unglazed. If glaze gets on the fiber it will melt it, don't know that I'd risk it
JohnnyK
Glazed buttons would not be a good idea. If you have another source for firing, make new buttons. When I built my fiber Raku kiln I used ^5 clay and bisqued the homemade buttons.
ABG
Yeah. I know better. I'm just trying to negotiate with the universe (aka whining). Gonna have to make some of my own. Thanks.

They are actually buttons - made to be put on clothing. Have some sort of turquoise glaze. I could have sworn that I still had some unglazed ones. Probably in a box somewhere safe. :-/
Mark C.
Your buttons need to be larger than clothing buttons even in a small kiln-Just make your own and bisque them hers a link to everything you may want to know about buttons, Not for clothing
