dangerouspottery
Hi all - I'm new to mixing glazes, and found a recipe that calls for Zinc Oxide. Is that the same as Zinc, or are they two separate ingredients ? (All they have at my local Ceramic Supply is called Zinc.) Thanks in advance, Karen
High Bridge Pottery
I would be 99% sure it is zinc oxide, unlikely that they sell zinc metal.
glazenerd
3 varieties actually. 1. Yellow zinc from sphalerite ore (Mexico) 80% pure! but also comes in calcined version- Denzox.- up to cone 10. 2. White zinc 99.8% pure zinc oxide: but starts to vaporize above 2260F. 3. Metallic zinc- pure zincite metal. Low fire, can be very reactive if over- fired. Cone 3 or lower pending flux levels.
neilestrick
More than likely the same thing.
Marcia Selsor
I'd say its the same for simple glaze ingredient unless you're doing rocket science level complicated things. Marcia
