What?
I have an opportunity to buy a Skutt automatic 1027 2.5" brick for $250 with furniture. I have a concern as to the floor. I will have to transport 150 miles and I will also want to put in a vent. I am not experienced enough on to buy or pass on this. Is this just normal wear? I know I can buy a new floor too. Anyone's two cents would be helpful. Thanks.
perkolator
Very normal wear to me on a kiln that actually gets used. For $250 I would definitely consider buying that kiln assuming the elements and control panel are all functioning and not needing parts from the start. The floor slab is still held together with a band, it won't fall apart if that's your worry. Just make sure to pack it well before transporting. You want padding to reduce vibrations yet you want it to be fairly rigid so it cannot shift. My suggestion is to put down a piece of semi-rigid foam, underneath the kiln -- like the styrafoam sheets you can get at a hardware store. You will also need something between the lid and the top bricks if keeping the lid on - soft foam sheet, bubble wrap, blanket, etc.
What?
I went through with the deal on this has 10 half shelves and stilts. Even if it fails I can buy a new slab for $200. I am also buying a Bailey DRD II slab roller and 3 ware carts.

Marcia Selsor
Good job. Looks like a good workhorse kiln. Marcia
neilestrick
That floor is cracked all the way through. Not good. Put a piece of sheet metal under it to help support it, and shim to the feet of the stand so that it does not rock.
