ronfire
I saw a video of Simon with plastic on the top row of brick to stop from inhaling the dust from the bricks. I have built a better solution with a bit of scrap plywood. Traced out 1/2 of the top row of bricks, cut the inside round to fit. Made the outside a bit larger and added some 1" square strips that will keep the plywood in place. Now I can load and unload the kiln without worrying about damage to the top bricks. I will try to get a photo in a couple of days when the kiln cools. Those 3" bricks hold in the heat well. Came up with this idea after my wife leaned on the top bricks and broke one. Mark C.
Mike Faul posted a photo of just such a plywood protector last year on this board-it was cut to fit his kiln top. I always just stay clear of the top but I'm a tall person. Lets see yours?

ronfire
Well I figured someone would have made them for sale, so much for my idea to make it rich Will try to post a pic tomorrow after I unload the kiln
glazenerd
Ron: 7 billion people on the planet currently: someone has thought of the same thing-somewhere. I do however get it. Yet another reason I got into clay formulation: it is so boring, no one wants to think about it. Nerd
Guest
Don't you hate it when someone steals your idea before you get a chance to think of it.
glazenerd
I had the idea to tell you someone might steal your idea: but you stole it. Nerd
