chaserw
I received a message from a customer saying that the white sculpture that she bought from me two years ago is starting to yellow. The piece was glazed with a low fire glossy white glaze. Anyone have any ideas on how to return the piece to its original color? Thanks!
Mark C.
This may sound odd but have you seen this yellow color? Is this sculpture outside?whats the clay body?
Guest JBaymore
And a bit more info please....... When you say "low fire"... what cone are you talking about? If the piece is outdoors, where is the client located? Do you have the glaze recipe? best, ..............john
MatthewV
White glass (glaze) should not fade within a lifetime. Some non-glaze finishes will change colors. Dust and grease can collect and stain a finish. Wash the piece. I suspect a film of grease is the culprit today.
chaserw
Thanks to everyone who responded. John, the piece is kept indoors. It is a lowfire white clay that was bisqued to cone 04. I used a commerical white glaze fired to cone 06. The piece is for decorative use only. It's a mystery.....
Matt Oz
To add to what the other Matt said, is there a smoker in the household, that can turn things yellow.
Mark C.
Another reason not to smoke-your pottery turns color. If you need another reason not to smoke-I know about 3,000 more
