Throwing Plates, Different Way?

Its what I call, that raised section you can see in the  center in photo of my bottom of plate bottom-its just above the foot level-so if the plate sags it touches the shelve at the nubbin instead of sagging onto a glazed bottom.

Its a signature spot for to sign my work as well and not get glazed over.I use this nubbin on many of my footed forms.
