ClayStuffAndThangs
Hello, I am a big fan of Mayco Products; I've been using all their glazes for years. I was hoping you could help me with something. I just recently went to Lowes, and found myself a few Terracotta flower pots and saucers that I wanted to glaze. I brought them home and glazed them all with stroke and coat colors, and fired them at Cone 06. When we got them out of the kiln, they looked like this (Image is attached) Any ideas why? Thank you! neilestrick
I suppose it's possible that the saucers were treated with something to make them more water tight, and it prevented the glaze from adhering properly. Try running one through a bisque firing before glazing.
oldlady
they were not clean. burn off whatever oils from handling or other crud is on them before applying glaze.
Nancy S.
Neil and oldlady are right. Commercially available pots/saucers are treated so they aren't as dusty as plain bisque ware or as porous.
