No! She's got a sculpture piece. It's also not cast but has been hand built and carved. She was clear that her pieces will be put on a shelf for display and did not intend to glaze them - but might change her mind. Also got me thinking about cone 04 firing.

Hi everyone! Someone reached out to me on kiln share to fire some bone dry porcelain. She expected that it needed to be fired to cone 10 for a bisque firing, which sounds wrong to me. I asked her to check the bag/brand and she was gifted it from an old friend and has no idea what the brand is. She doesn't plan on doing a glaze firing. My assumption is that it'll be fired at cone 04? But I don't work with porcelain so this is a new situation for me.

I recently got a new steel pottery rib and there seems to be a thin blue film on it? I cannot for the life of me get it off and the rib is starting to rust. Any ideas?

I’m still new to the ceramics process, I only started throwing early this year and am finally starting to work on glazing. One thing I’m uncertain on is clear glaze (brush) application. How many coats do I need to do if I’m applying clear directly to bisqueware? If applying on top of other colored glazes, do I need to do multiple coats? Thank you all for helping me learn!

I have an older version of this kiln from 1990 and the panel on the outside of the kiln says it's cone 6. I actually emailed olympic and they said that they changed it to cone 4 since it was more reliable. Makes sense!

That's really good to know, I had no idea! I've been trying to post a photo and it won't let me - but I imagine that's exactly what the problem is. Thanks so much for taking the time to respond!

To add to this, the outside of my kiln indicates it gets up to cone 6, but it looks like more recent models only get to cone 4. I’m wondering if my kiln will even get hot enough.

Hi everyone! I recently purchased a used Olympic Kiln 1214-120T. It has a kiln sitter and I’ve familiarized myself with how to use the kiln, but I’m running my first cone 6 attempt and I don’t think it’s getting hot enough. It’s been on high for about 6 hours and was slowly ramped up from low to medium over a four hour period. I have witness cones in the kiln and the middle cone isn’t bending yet. Any guesses?
