Status Update: Hurricane Helene did a job on us up here in our mountains. My cabin and studio are fine but it was a mess. Been out of the studio and offline the past week working with my VFD to clear and rebuild roads, assist the elderly, distribute food, water, gas, generators, etc. Things are starting to normalize. We have power and internet restored. Back to work in my studio this week!

I am glad you are alright and that you were able to help There was a crew of people from our electrical utility company that was sent to help. We just recently bought a battery back up system for our house. It will last 12 hours or more with minimal electricity use in the house. It also has 4 solar panels that you can lay out in the sun to help charge it. My neighbors have a solar home they might be agreeable to us charging it on their system. We are good at minimal living, we lost our power for two weeks one time . We only lost power for 24 hours after the last tornado. Denice

Very good! We are working on getting hydroelectric set up with our creek but it's not cheap and I have to do it myself. We live in too remote an area to get anyone out here to set it up for us. Solar's not a great choice where I am since it rains all of the time (rain forest) with trees right up around the cabin and mountains looming up three sides.

Solar or wind is great in Kansas, we are also looking into small turbine wind set up to back up the battery system. We need to do a lot of research, haven't lost our power yet to see how our new system works. We usually lose our power in the spring. We have bad storms and tornado's in the spring that take out the power. Like you we got lucky the last one was across the street from us and only did some minor roof damage. Denice
