my question would be.
If you wanted to and had the means, which part of the process would you assign to an apprentice/assistant?
I have the means and had a studio assistant for over 25 years now -its handles-interior glazing and some help with baby pots as well as most all of the hot dip waxing (I do the liquid wax on footed forms)

When you play with dark oversaturated clays with colorants you will have issues-its part of the deal. Like playing with fire you will get burned sooner or later.

This wheel is made to sit at-at the corner with legs on both sides. Its a strange set up at best.

This whole system as well as the wheel is a really old wheel.
My worry is not the belts its all the other parts-wheel head bearings -shaft pulleys all are so old replacement is an issue-looking at the guts its a three belt drive-very old school.
You can call skutt and see whats available for this wheel. If its Zero than forget it.
The belts are all findable-the other parts are the issue. This is a rope controlled pedal which has its own issues as well.I threw on one of these about 40 years ago.
I would hold out for a modern wheel.

This is an older wheel it looks like-make sure the wheel head is true(not bent) when spining.
Its been to many years since I threw on this to tell you anything else
the foot pedal should work well as well.

CI sold out long ago and many of its products are now made offshore -my take is quality went to pieces
The new american way.The mother company is speedball with a huge range of products
I use an old CI square steel stand next to my brent wheel to store bats and my throwing clay pieces. Its well amde and has a solid plastic top with a hole in it from the wheel head penetration.

Maybe the pulley/belt is rubbing on the under deck?

I to add a bit of water to my wax to this it. You have to be more careful then as it runs even easier.

As noted alumina will not melt and needs to be handled properly.
Over the years I stopped adding it to wax ( as it settles out) instead I dip my cut sponge in wax and dip it into a small bowl of alumina powder.
You have to be careful it does not run down the pot. I usually only use alumina on 1/2 of the lidded form the top or bottom then just straight wax on the sponge on the other 1/2.This process is fast and precise . Let these two pieces dry before putting the lid on.Then after glazing I sponge the edge once more with a wet sponge to remove any glaze drops.
If the glaze gets any hydrate on it it will be rough and dry so you need to be carefull
Now as to your wax it burns off not runs off so thats not the issue. No matter what kind you use
I use mobil Ceramul A from Laguna-I think its sold in small amounts as I buy it in 5 gallons buckets-I use one up very 5 years or so.
As far as it running did that happen when you applied it? As thats the only time it can run down.
