This evening is my very first show ever. I'm excited and also slightly terrified! My kiln load yesterday came out beautiful with lots of new designs to sell and my dad helped me build display shelves last weekend. Babysitter is coming soon and after that it's a mad scramble!

... he was selling completely plain mugs, dipped, for $4-$12 and I was selling my textured, work-intensive mugs with brushed glaze, generally around an hour per item, for $15-$30 depending on size. Everybody bought his stuff. I've tried to make plain, I really have, but I hate it. It isn't ME.

When I make plain stuff (read: no carving or slip trailing) I will decorate the surface with engobes or wax resist in the glaze stage. I just ... CAN'T. I know it's the way to make money doing production but I feel really dull and listless about that kind of work and I don't even want to finish it. Which isn't the point! If I'm not excited about it why am I doing it?

Okay now I feel bad because I complained a bunch but the truth is that it was really fun, my dad helped me build display shelves so setup took 20 minutes; I very much enjoyed meeting people and talking to them about my work and art in general.
