Guest Herb Norris
I use cone 6 ox. glazes if I glaze (Glazing and I don't see eye to eye ), and I was thinking of trying Coyote glazes, they look very good to me. Of course, we all know that glaze recipes don't always translate well, they can be very process specific, so I was wondering if others have had good luck with them? Pam S
I use several of Coyote's glazes. Had a bit of trouble with a couple of them at first. A few are a little finicky about application. The shino's are the easiest to use and have turned out beautiful every time. I also love the Gun Metal Green.
Guest Herb Norris
Thanks, Pam, that is good news. Anyone else have any experience with them?
Marc McMillan
Thanks, Pam, that is good news, as I have ordered the Shino sample pack, and some of the white crackle. Anyone else have any experience with them? I use them often and like them. I love the Ice Blue, Red Gold, and Gun Metal Green. Really Red is a great accent color. Read the Glaze Tips as they are very helpful. Regarding Ice Blue, I have found an even application is important. I like the effects of a thicker coating but if its uneven you can tend to get darker grey bands that may look cool, but aren't the aesthetic you may want. In general, I have found that the glazes apply nicely and are pretty stable. Give them a try. Marc
Pam S
Ditto Marc! Their web site has quite a few tips for using the galzes. They are also very responsive to questions via email. Wonderful company!
jolene
I use cone 6 ox. glazes when I DO glaze ( I usually smoke, pit or Raku fire - Glazing and I don't see eye to eye ), and I was thinking of trying Coyote glazes, they look very good to me. Of course, we all know that glaze recipes don't always translate well, they can be very process specific, so I was wondering if others have had good luck with them? I'm like you in that glazing and I are not always friends. I have used some Coyotes. Gun Metal Green is fabulous every time. Oasis and Opal need 4 coats. Archies Base is nice but runny. Use it only on the inside and the top of the outside on a vertical form. The Spectrum mid fire glazes seem to be the most user friendly for me. cracked pot
I have used Archie's Base, Ice Blue, Shino and Aqua Celedon. Love the effects you can get with Ice Blue and Archie's. Ice Blue give a great crystal effect inside my bowls. All are runny when applying and must be stirred frequently.
Guest Herb Norris
Thanks, guys, this is great info. I am waiting for the sample pack of Celadons to arrive, and then it's test tile time!
Bobg
I've used Shino, light Blue Shino, green Shino, Red Gold, Ice Blue, and Mottled Blue. I've had pretty good luck with the Red Gold and Ice Blue coming out like they show on their website. But the Shine is quite a bit different and the Mottled Blue I've had to make the glaze thicker than heavy cream and double dip it. Otherwise is comes out green where it's lighter. The Shine doesn't get smooth and its quite a bit more golden colored. I'd like to try their clay, but they haven't put any pictures up of what it looks like fired. If anyone has any pictures of their clay fired I'd appreciated getting a look at them. Bob
