Any Smart Phone Apps For Kilns?

Recommended Posts

I just got my first smart phone. My old flip phone was on it's last few working buttons so I jumped into the smart phone world, kinda nice, really.

So I started to think about if they're any apps to communicate with a kiln controller or, in the case of a gas kiln, maybe a wireless thermocouple with bluetooth so we could get a current update to temp with out singing one's eyebrows, looking at cones.

I've seen some micro computers(matchbox size)that have some of these features, just wondering if anyone's been working on something like that

I have always wanted to look into making my own temperature controller from say an Arduino or Raspberry Pi or similar. I don't know how this would work but I have now been inspired.

An app could be a great idea to go a long with it. Although I hate "smart" phones.

Just another thing to add onto my to-do list.

After some initial research, it is much more complicated than I thought  -_- Who knew non linear voltage and reference junction compensation would sound so horrible.

I think Omega corp has a value table on thermocouples that might be a way to program the Arduino. There is a large open source library of  programs that others have made that can be dl'ed and added into a program. I was hoping someone like Orton had already done that.

I think a thermocouple conversion program & a wifi program w/wifi shield for the Arduino and an app for the Iphone wifi(already available) would do a lot of the bare bones work, but that's just a guess.
