sivamc Posted September 13, 2013 Report Share Posted September 13, 2013 I had a relay fail during a Cone 5 glaze firing. The temp reached 1800 degrees and fired 10 and a half hours. The glazes were under fired and looked chalky but they do not come off. I have replaced the bad relay and my question is: do I re-glaze before re-firing, just re-fire, or do I just throw the stuff away? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Min Posted September 13, 2013 Report Share Posted September 13, 2013 Refire to ^5, the glazes will be fine. If you got to 1800F that is only ^06 so your glazes haven't melted yet, therefore the chalky appearance. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

neilestrick Posted September 13, 2013 Report Share Posted September 13, 2013 If your relays have not been replaced in a few years, go ahead and replace them all. Chances are the others will fail soon, too. Write the date on the new ones with a marker so you'll know how old they are next time they fail.
