AndreaB
It's me again. Some advise please. My teacher suggested I use Indian ink to emphasize crackels in a glazed piece. If I did that would I have to refire? If I used say cobalt or black iron oxide instead of the ink, which would give a better result? MatthewV
Try them all and see what you like. Black can be used to emphasize the colors. I personally don't think I would like the piece more if there was a stronger, darker outline. There is not aesthetically wrong with softer colors and they match the bright white inside well. I also don't think iron or cobalt would work particularly well in your piece. I have never use Indian Ink.
Celia UK
I don't think you refire after ink Andrea, it just seeps into the crackles and shows it up more, though your photo doesn't show as a crackle glaze to me. I love these muted colours with the White - what glaze(s) have you used?
bciskepottery
India ink stains the exposed clay between the cracks; no firing needed -- permanent stain. Firing would burn out the coloring from the ink.
rakukuku
If you do use india ink, try it diluted with water first. I remember using it full strength and it really blackened the area too much. rakuku
