Sara
I am worried that my cone 5 glaze won't work on my sculpture because the instructions say to use on bisque 05 or green ware. My sculpture was fired to cone 5 or 6. Any thoughts?
rayaldridge
If it's already fired to 5 or 6 you may have some trouble getting it to stick. Your best bet is probably to spray it on a heated piece and try to build up several layers.
Benzine
Any reason, you bisque fired it so high? Generally people only bisque to 06-04. It's meant to make the clay strong enough to handle, and burn out any organics, that may cause issues, during the glazing. Annnnnyway, yes you can glaze the sculpture. As rayaldridge said, it will be difficult to apply the glaze, as the clay is vitrified. Bisqueware is porous, and really sucks in the glaze. Vitrified clay, does not. As was suggested, heat your wares first, which does help, when applying glaze to vitrified. wares. Best of luck.
LinR
other options are to use acrylic paint, various stains and even shoe polish!!!
florence w
Some in our community studio spray a glazed piece with hair spray then add the additional glaze by dipping. I haven't tried it but have been told it works.
