azglp
We are using low lead colors that are recommended to fire at 760c. I would like to know the purpose of flux if it were to be added in the glaze mix. Should we still at fire at 760c or at a lower temperature. If it were to be fired at 760c with flux, would the colors soften ?

Dick White
Also, what do you mean by "flux"? Is that a particular product, a particular chemical, or just a general term?

Kelly in AK
Unfortunately “flux” is too general a term and is not synonymous with “frit.” Does the manufacturer suggest a particular flux or frit? There are MANY, all unique. China paints (as I understand) have traditionally been formulated with the proper flux to fire on to already glazed surfaces at lower than glaze fire temperatures. You add the medium, but the flux is (supposedly) built into the pigment formula. Edited October 17, 2022 by Kelly in AK
