Tkul
Hello all, I am looking for a recipe for a cone 04 glossy black glaze for earthenware. Any help appreciated. Thank you
Min
There are a few on Glazy, or if you have a clear glaze that fits your clay try that base with Mason Best Black stain 6600. If you try the stain I'ld mix up 100 grams of base and add 8 grams of stain, dip a test tile then add another 2 grams of stain and dip another test tile then repeat with an additional 2 grams of stain. It isn't super accurate since each time you are dipping a tile you are depleting the 100 grams of base glaze but it will get you in the ballpark. (If you have a white glaze recipe that works you could also try that minus the opacifier as the base glaze) Welcome to the forum
Tkul
Thanks so much for responding. The 6600 is a little too expensive for our museum, Old Sturbridge Village. We will be working on a less expensive recipe. Thank you Min!
oldlady
bailey sells 6600 for just under $20 a pound and a cobalt free black, number 6650 for just under $14. surely you need a larger quantity. discounts are given for higher amounts. mason will sell directly to you at about 10 pounds level.
