Soup
Hello, I was wondering if I have a kiln that goes up to cone 6 as the max then would it be fine if I use cone5-6 clay? I'm pretty new to all this so maybe it's a simple answer but I don't want to overwork my kiln ( i don't know if that's the correct term for it). Would it be okay if I fire the clay to cone 5 instead of cone 6, because the clay that I want to get is a cone 5-6. Thanks.
Babs
Would suggest firing lower even. Cone 5-6 will max out your kiln.
Callie Beller Diesel
Usually if you intend to fire regularly to cone 5 or 6, you need a kiln that is rated for cone 9-10. The elements will only hold out for a limited number of firings if you’re taking it to it’s top capacity. One cone down isn’t a very big difference if you’re a kiln element. Soup
Oh alright thank you both, I guess I have to get a low fire clay oh well. I appreciate the response. I don't know how to individually respond haha. Thanks!
Callie Beller Diesel
@SoupIf you want to tag someone specific like I did here, start typing with the “@“ and add the first few letters of their screen name. A drop down menu should appear with a list of users. Click on the appropriate screen name, and it will appear highlighted in your reply. That person will then receive a notification that they’ve been mentioned in a comment (like the one that brought your attention back here). Mostly though, if someone is helping you with a problem we tend to check back on the thread, because we want to see how things work out. Happy firing!
