Liz Rawlings
Hi I am new here and hope this is the right place to post this. I have recently bought my first kiln and finished the first glaze firing in it today. I am working with all new glazes having been in a pottery class studio before but this has now shut due to covid. In general the firing went well but I have a variety of sgraffito pieces in which were glazed clear. All came out fine except for the piece which I used a black slip on. All the slips used have the same firing temp ranges. I glazed to the same method and same thickness. I fired with a gentle curve ramping up at 130 until 1095 at which point ramp dropped to 60 until 1245 with a 20 min soak. There were 7 pieces glazed transparent over different coloured slips and this is the only one that went wrong. All these pieces were also bisqued together. Any ideas on why I may have had this issue? I wonder if I should try the black pieces on a lower temperature next time?...
Min
Slip recipe? Could you post a picture of the pinholes? Are they going through the glaze and underglaze or just the glaze? Is this a broad firing range clay? Welcome to the forum!
Callie Beller Diesel
Also, did you apply the slip before or after the bisque?
