Potterypat
Hi there ! I have finally been delivered my Rohde TE100 cc+ top loader after 12 weeks ( thank you Covid ). We have already ran into some problems as they seem to have wired the wrong socket to it which is more powerful than the specs said in the details . My very capable husband has got to the bottom of it but not without buying a fancy £85 connector ☹️. Anyway , I m now terrified of using it and know I need to fire it for the first time while it’s empty . Also people are talking about kiln wash - any advice on either ? Should I kiln wash my shelves and props before firing the kiln for the first time ?
Hulk
Congrats on your new kiln! Might as well get your washing done - on upside of shelves, eh (I believe most potters wash the down end of their posts, or both ends)? There are several threads here on kiln wash suggestions - many experienced potters make their own wash and point out that commercial wash is often inferior... neilestrick
You don't have to fire the kiln wash after applying it, and you don't need to pre-fire the shelves before using them. But if you want to put them in there for the test firing it won't hurt anything. Search kiln wash here on the forum and you'll find lots of good info.
