heydank
Hello everyone! I am hoping to achieve a certain look; a stained clay body (using black/brown/blue/generally dark mason stains), with white grog to achieve a sandy texture (using molochite, possibly). Here is my concern: some sources discourage mixing molochite with iron, which mason stains have a lot of. Will mixing molochite with a dark stained clay body taint the white color of the molochite? The hope is to achieve a dark body, with white texture. Thanks in advance!
Min
I don't think molochite would stain, as in theory it should be vitreous. If the clay surface is scraped or trimmed to expose the molochite I'm thinking it should remain white but I'ld run a small sample test to confirm this. liambesaw
I don't know for sure, but you could always make your own white grog from high fire porcelain, it won't stain

oldlady
i doubt you would even be able to find tiny grog in the finished piece.

So for a texture such as the one in the picture, what would you recommend? 12-20?
liambesaw
If you can handle it on your hands. It's rough on the wheel but if you're hand building then try it out and see
