Ashley Scobey
Hey friends. I’ve been throwing for a while at a community center but just got my own kiln. I threw some pieces on low fire body (cone 06-08) and then stupidly glazed them in a mid fire glaze (cone 5-7). Is there any way to salvage this or fire low fire clay with mid fire glaze without risking messing up my kiln? Any creative solutions/ help are so appreciated! Thank you!! Min
Hi Ashley and welcome to the forum. Wash the glaze off the pots, scrub them well then let them thoroughly dry and start again with your lowfire glazes. Maybe look at this as a blessing in disguise, better to realize the mistake now rather than if you had fired them to midrange and probably would have had to deal with melted clay on your shelves. Chilly
As @Min says. Plus, if you fire to the clay temperature, it's highly likely the glaze will be undermatured, (dry, crusty).
