Imasassycat
My mugs are not coming out good. I start with bisque and use Duncan glazes. The inside comes out smooth and shiny but the outside coming out rough. What am I doing wrong?
neilestrick
@Imasassycat Are you sure you're using glaze and not underglaze? Which products specifically are you using? What cone are you firing to?

Are you doing 3 coats, brushing in the opposite direction with each coat?
Stephen
Are you making mugs with low fire clay and glaze on purpose? I know there is debate but I would think some of the cons to using low fire for functional ware would be possibly more pronounced with a mugs. I get that that wasn't your question so ignore me if you have considered this and purposely chosen to make low fire mugs. In addition to glaze application I would double check that clay is low fire and recheck both firing temps. I don't work in low fire but we use a 20 minute hold at cone 5 too even out melt.
