Candice
Hello everyone! I haven't really found an answer to this question, so post it here. I work in earthnware (my school doesn't have an kiln hot enough for more, sadly...). I would like to start some slip casting work, and was wondering, for financial reasons, if I could also use my casting slip as an engobe, if I add in some mason stain. Would there be any chemical reason why this might not work? Thanks to all in advance for your answers - much appreciated!
oldlady
why not just add water to some of your basic clay to form a slip. then add color. there should be no adverse effects if you are using the same materials. earthenware clay and the same earthenware clay with color will give you a clay with the same properties as the original clay. Callie Beller Diesel
If you’re using the casting slip over slipcast items, I don’t see an issue. But I second Oldlady’s idea about the simplest solution being to use your white clay body as a base.
