Burnishing Black Clay

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone

Just wondering whether anyone has burnished Laguna B-3 BROWN CLAY and if so:

1. what did you use to burnish?

2. have you used vegetable oil for second burnishing at bone hard?

3. can you post photos of results please?

cheers!

Sorry I have never used Laguna Brown B-3, but I have worked with Flinthills Brown, it is suppose to be similar to Laguna's brown.  It was a really coarse clay, the only way I could maybe burnish it is to make a slip out of the clay.  You could do a test and see if that would work.  Denice

Hi Blurcharm and welcome to the forum! :)

Never used Laguna clay too (not available in Switzerland). I burnished black clay though (Spanish clay) using semiprecious stones, teaspoons and plastic wrapped over a finger. For oils: babyoil is the best, then linseed oil (tepid!).

Just try on different trial slabs, 1x straight, 1x bent and fire them!

Good luck!

Evelyne
