Tommy
Hi everyone, I want to make a flat cheese platter in the shape of a semi circle at 3/4 inch high (picture a chopping board). I understand the best approach would be to just use a slab of clay however i want to try some patterns with coloured slip and a white slip in a mould. Im planning on making a simple 1 piece mould and pouring abit of the coloured slip to create a pattern and then fill the rest with the main slip. My question is: if i just pour slip into an open mould at 3/4" depth would it set properly? Or should I make a 2 piece mould so the top hardens better? Thanks
Mark C.
Thats a bit thick for a mold-how about adding the slip onto of that slab of clay?Do it when its wet. Slabs or castings that thick can tend to crack and warp so slow drying and maybe some weight on top will aid this.
Callie Beller Diesel
Why not make your patterns on the surface of your mould and press a slab into them? Best of both worlds.
