LeeU
Finally, my carpenter is ready to enclose my L&L electric kiln, which will be set up on a screened-in porch that is attached to my trailer. There is a solid door to the house and a storm door to the outside. The porch flooring is painted plywood over 4" x 6" deck planks and the floor is reinforced underneath the porch. The kiln will be on its stand set on concrete pavers or a poured cement slab. The enclosure walls will be plywood faced on the inside with HardiBacker. The walls will be at least 2' from the kiln. The enclosure will have it's own roof. Is it necessary to line that with the cement board also? There will be an access door, of course-so does that need to be lined as well?). The kiln will be vented to the outside with a kit. The screen portions of the porch will be winterized with professionally installed 8 mil. transparent sheeting (i.e. fitted to last). Electrical has been confirmed-no problems, and will allow for a portable heater if the controller needs to be warmed up in the NH (cold) winter. So--am I forgetting anything--anything else I need to know or think about?? THANKS IN ADVANCE...I am SO ready to move forward, it's been a long wait! oldlady
wow! it sounds like you have thought of everything. 2 feet of space to any wall is great but i know the kiln experts will have something to say. good luck firing! waiting so long was hard but now you are on your way. neilestrick
18" is adequate, especially if you have cement board on the walls. No need for cement board on the ceiling. 2 layers of cement board on the floor would also work, instead of concrete, and it would keep the kiln shorter.
