Help! Not All Elements Are Working In My Kiln.

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone.

I posed earlier that I was having problems with my kiln getting up to temperature. Sure enough, it seems that some of the elements aren't working. (See pic) How do I fix this? I'm just starting out, and I've reached my budget as far as ceramics are concerned, so I hope there is a cheap fix.

I overheard someone say that you can cut the element at an effected part and overlap the element to make a connection. Is this so?

Thanks,

TA

.The current in kilns can be very dangerous so get an electrician to trace the problem. You need to get someone familiar with kilns to determine where the problem is. The mfg of the kiln will have  a manual that can help trace the issue, maybe give them a call first of the week and explain what's going on.

Do you see any breaks in the elements? If not it may be a loose or shorted wire, get help finding the problem.

How many relays does the kiln have? What power does it run off. Try and post as much info as possible.

Unplug the kiln and look at the wiring to the elements. Look for any obvious signs of decay. Maybe post some pictures too of the wiring.

EDIT

Just saw the post above. My guess is that the 'fix' won't last for too long but good that they are working again. Try and find if there was anything that caused the break. It is strange for both pairs to go at once. Did you check they all worked before this?

It looks strangely like the kiln I just spend 4 months fixing
