Spraying Glaze

Recommended Posts

You can spray a dipping, pouring or brushing glaze. If it is a commercial brushing glaze it probably has gums and flocculants added to it to make it thick. If this is the case then you can either water it down just enough so it sprays or you can use a deflocculant (sodium silicate or Darvan). Increasing the psi of the compressor also helps spray a thick glaze, I spray one of my glazes on when it is a yogurt consistency this way.

I usually water down my glaze that I spray to a cream consistency and over compensate by spraying a few layers. Also make sure your glaze is mixed and screened really well so it does not clog up the spray gun.
