Can't Find Info On My Kiln Model!

Recommended Posts

This morning I was gifted a sweet little electric kiln, Skutt C10F. It's only a test kiln, as it is rather small in size, but I'm still excited about it because sometimes I want to fire something specific (one or two pieces) or do some glaze testing, and don't want to do a whole load in my full size kiln.

I went online to search for the kiln manual and to read reviews/ feedback/ check out info for this model. There is nothing! I have read and re-read the little metal face plate to make sure I have it correct: Skutt Electric Kiln, Model C10F. Nothing comes up on line anywhere. It's a ghost kiln!

Update: I called Skutt and the service lady had never heard of the kiln. She figures it must be 50 years old. She wasn't able to send me a manual or give me info on it because they don't support those old models any longer.

I wonder if you have this model, have had it, or know what I could do in this situation? It's in great shape, practically new, and I'm thrilled to have it. If it is truly so hard to find then I assume I won't be able to get parts for it later on down the line.

Thanks in advance for any info!

talk to a kiln technician if there is one nearby.  last summer, i found a small, old odd name kiln and a friend took it to a technical expert and had the whole thing stripped and rewired.  a kiln is really only a brick box with wires inside.  change the wires if you need to.  if not, maybe try using it the way it is.  just try something, watch closely and see if it works.  what is the worst thing that could happen?
