UnaLaney
I am a fledgling potter and am interested in a wheel so that I can practice at home. I saw an ad for a Axner m300 wheel. They came out in 2003 or there about. When it was new the price was 595.00 but that was 13 years ago. They are asking 375.00 for it. Is this a reasonable amount of money for this old a model. Thank you!!!
Foxden
In my experience it takes patience to find a good value on used wheels. If you hang in you will find it, but maybe not tomorrow. I have bought older Shimpo wheels in great condition for $200 and recently a Brent CXC, almost new, for $400. Sometimes just putting out the word that you are looking, to friends, coworkers, or even a wanted ad on Craigslist might turn one up. The key to the bargain is the seller has to want to get rid of it. Hobby is over, folks are moving, someone died - whatever. You can make an offer on the wheel. It all depends how badly you want it. In my mind I am generally only willing to pay a price that I think I could easily get if I decided to resell it if a better one comes along. Above all, make sure the wheel you are looking at works right, no wobble, slipping of wheel head or ratting noises that could point to costly repairs. Good luck - it's out there, go find it. UnaLaney
Thank you Foxden I appreciate the input. I'm not in a hurry but don't want to pass up a good deal either. Unfortunately I really don't know what a good deal is but I'm learning.
oldlady
whatever wheel you end up with, it would be a good experience to go see the wheel advertised. you might find that the person listing it is not a potter, just someone who has to clear a space or empty a building and found this thing. the price might have been just a number to the seller. if you try it out, you will educate both you and the seller to its value and education is never lost. neilestrick
I wouldn't pay more than $200.

Foxden
Most wheels seem to bottom out in the $200 to 250 price range. I have never seen one less than that, at least one I would consider half way decent.
