hameed09
Hello, First things first, I have in my kitchen a 'French kitchen' type installation. Its kind of whole wood box set against a wall. This box is topped with a ceramic block to provide the work space. The ceramic block has two drilled out spaces, one for fitting the stove on one side and the other for fitting the washing sink. Now to the problem. The ceramic block fits against the wall and its is filled with tile paste (i don't know its name) to cover the tiny space between the ceramic top and wall. The side which has the sink has the problem that the paste eroded away and water keeps leaking down that tiny space to the box down below with all the kitchen ware inside. I tried using the same paste to cover it properly but the problem persists after some time. Another problem is with the sink fitting. The sink is fit tightly around the cut block space against the ceramic edges. Now apparently there is a tiny teeny space between the ceramic edge and sink so when ever i do the washing water leaks through that. These two problems are giving me a lot of problem keeping the insides clean. I tried to get suggestions but all i get is recommendations for the same kind of pastes. Please help, what should i do? Chris Campbell
Hi and welcome! One thing we might need to know is what country you are in so people can recommend products you are familiar with. It sounds as if you need a proper re-caulking job done. First you remove all the old, dried and shrunken caulk ( the paste ) then you thoroughly clean both surfaces, then you lay down fresh caulk. In order to get a nice looking finished look, I would recommend hiring a professional tile person or plumber, or practice a lot before you start. It is more difficult than it looks to lay a nice, even line of caulk.
neilestrick
Yep, caulk is your friend.
Marcia Selsor
Welcome to the forum! The photos are too close to see what is what, but you should have caulking as Neil says. Marcia
hameed09
Thank you Chris Campbell, appreciate the reply very much. I live in Pakistan and your suggestion of caulking paste looks very similar to the paste used in my kitchen. But the paste erodes away pretty quickly with water exposure. What kind of caulking paste exactly do i need as where i live people simply suggest a "paste for the tiles" with no specifications. Secondly do you think that paste would work on the sink fixture as there is almost no space for any paste to get in the tiny space (look at the 2nd picture, the curve portion shows the sink fitting) but water still leaks down. Chilly
I'd try silicone sealant.
