MichaelP
What porcelain for Cone 4-6 firing in electric kilns do you prefer (brand, #)? Do you buy it locally or by mail? What does it cost to you in the end (and in what quantity)? Did anybody try P-5 porcelain sold by Clay King? What cone do you fire yours to for functional pottery? I mean if it's Cone 5-6, do you prefer to fire it to ^5 or to ^6? Thanks. Mike
neilestrick
Standard #365 grolleg porcelain, which I get from Ceramic Supply Chicago. Throws great. No warping or cracking issues. I've made 45 pound planters with it. I fire it to cone 6. I don't know what I pay for it without looking it up, because it doesn't really matter. The cost of the clay is negligible in my opinion. Marcia Selsor
I loved the last batch 500 pounds of Laguna's Frost I bought. I had a 1000 pounds I picked up in Byerville, Ohio at the plant. It was not as nice as the I have also used last batch.I fire it to ^6 and hold for 30 minutes or so. When I was in Montana I used Plainsman Porcelain and Archie Brwy Porcelain. Marcia
MichaelP
Thank you Neil and Marcia. Marcia, do I understand correctly that you use porcelain for racu regularly? Any problems with this? And thank you for the wonderful workshop in MN! I enjoyed it immensely.
