When mixing clay, how long do you allow the slip to sit/homogenize?

Recommended Posts

I am with @min, standard mixing for me has always been, add water, slake for 24 hours then mix. Several studies have shown residence time can influence full hydration significantly. I was always taught 24 hours which may be intentionally conservative. Does the supplier include best practice instructions for their product?

Thank you both. This is a clay recipe I found on glazy (it’s a ^10 throwing clay).

I’m very new to mixing my own clay. I measured out my dry materials and added water and mixed with a drill. The last time I made clay I added water slowly and kept wedging the clay. This time I added a lot more water and so it’s a pretty loose slip.
