s6x
Looking to do the crackle effect on a piece, and finding few color options when it comes to ready made crackle glazes. Could a similar effect be achieved by using a color underglaze with CLEAR crackle glaze on top? I realize most to the best crackle effects are achieved in Roku firing, but would love to get a matte surface with crackle.... and electric kiln. This would probably work, but the crazing you will get with most commercial crackle glazes will be much finer than the example photos you posted. You will need to go over the pot with India ink after firing to get dark color into the cracks.
Min
Is it only commercial glazes you are interested in? If you are firing lowfire you can still use a commercial raku glaze then stain the crazing with calligraphy ink (or china paints with a subsequent very low firing).
