Making ovenware

Hi all. I’m a newbie, so I hope this isn’t too naïve a question.  Is there any clay or clay additive that anyone can recommend to make a clay body that would be oven safe?

In the class I’m taking they use a porcelain-like clay that fires at cone six. I’ve also been working with some cone six stoneware clay at home for hand building.  But I’m told that the vessels made from these clays won’t withstand thermal shock very well.

Hi Allan and welcome to the forum!

In a perfect world a low expansion clay with well fitting glazes would be the way to go. In reality many people make ovenware from other bodies, the design of the pot also comes into play as does how to use (and not use) ovenware. There are quite a few threads discussing this, one of them here. I would suggest asking your local ceramic supply place which claybody they recommend.
