Muskokandrew
Hi folks, I'm hearingĀ a whining noise from a Shimpo SL Light wheel, which I assume indicates that the bearings or the shaft need grease. Problem is I can't remove the wheel head to access the shaft. I've taken out the set screw, but the head won't budge. I tried spraying some penetrating oil into the gaps and letting it soak overnight, but no dice. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks
neilestrick
Pottery wheels don't typically need any lubrication since they use sealed bearings. Unless it has a grease fitting then there's noting to grease. Can you confirm where the noise is coming from- bearing, belt, motor? If it's the bearing, then the bearing is likely worn and should be replaced. If it's the motor, then it may just need a quick touch with a commutator stone (depends on what type of motor it has).
