Lee Watson
Trying to fire an old cress kiln that has two dials 0-100. Any suggestions on settings to bisque 05?
Dick White
The dials that go from 0-100 provide infinitely variable power to the elements, much like the knobs on an electric stove. Low numbers yield low heat, high numbers produce high heat. Start with the dials set to 1 for 2 hours, then turn it up to 50 for 2 hours, and finally 100 until the witness cone(s) bend. Callie Beller Diesel
How old is old? Some Cress kilns have a weird system where it’s an infinite switch that Dick describes, plus a thumbwheel that will turn the kiln up for you at varying rates.
