Sandy091
The inside of one part mold cups bloat badly. Not evident after bisque, only after glaze firing. No evident pattern. Happens with a variety of glazes. Have fired over 100 small cups for glaze testing a year ago- no problem. Now the interiors of sever slip cast items are bloating. Same kiln, several different glazes, and different boxes of casting slip. Help! ( this is Miller cone 6 porcelain.
Min
Hi Sandy and welcome to the forum. 2 hours ago, Sandy091 said: ...and different boxes of casting slip. Might be a change in the formula due to the recent talc issues. Which Millar porcelain? Do you have the SDS for it? Are you getting warping and/or slumping also? Using cones to verify firings haven't gotten hotter?
neilestrick
Have you confirmed with cones that your kiln is firing accurately?
Jeff Longtin
While Min and Neil address the firing issue I'll ask this: are we talking boxes of slip that have been sitting around for over a year? Did the slip thicken during that period? Was the slip exposed to the elements as well? (Perhaps the slip became contaminated?)
