Crooked Lawyer Potter
Can anyone help me with a recipe for some nice modest blues using cobalt oxide (or cobalt carbonate) as an over-glaze decoration. I often decorate a piece by brushing on copper oxide or a RIO/rutile mix in water (with a little gerstley borate) to paint lines or forms onto the piece but I need some blues that arent so LOUD! Min
Gosu is the Japanese name for cobalt pigment originally from ground pebbles. Leach approximated this far less harsh blue colour by using a mix for it (below). Even just adding some red iron oxide plus manganese will tone down the cobalt.
